Amber Llacuna-Benavente is Head Teacher for BVCDC. She graduated from CSU, Sacramento in 2006 with a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child Development. Originally, she wanted to become a teacher/counselor in public junior high schools, but upon learning much about how the current school systems operate, she discovered that she would be able to make much more of a difference elsewhere.

“I have a love of all cultures and traditions, but the native way of life is what calls me,” she said . “I have always wanted to be a teacher in a place where I could truly make a difference in not only children’s lives but also in the community,” she said. Amber grew up in Sacramento but would also spend summers and holidays with her dad and family in Hawaii. She claims to be “a mix of many wonderful nationalities including Filipino-Hawaiian, French, German, Chamorro, and Native American.”

“I am wonderfully blessed to be able to be a part of this extraordinary school and loving community. I put all of my heart into working with these children and will always try to do my best to honor the spirit of this beautiful school.”
